Oakbrook Center has been a centerpiece of the Oak Brook community for more than 50 years. Originally opened in 1962, it is the second largest shopping center in the Chicago area and has always been known for its elegant character.
The new design creates an atmosphere that is inviting and approachable. And no mall renovation would be complete without the addition of new stores and restaurants.
MB STUDIO’S approach was to create an atmosphere for community gatherings. The design further enhances Oakbrook’s already elegant character by creating an atmosphere that is inviting and approachable and acts as a backdrop to the many activities in the space, from large planned events to informal gatherings.
The 14,000 SF District Food Hall includes 10 gourmet eateries centered around a common seating area. Many have outside patio seating in an area ringed with greenery and flowers, while indoors is a large food hall, appealingly split into sections for the various eateries with interesting seating options and tables sized from petite to communal. Two additional eateries occupy two outward-facing storefronts.
